Solar water heaters use solar heat to heat water. They consist of collectors that collect solar radiation. These collectors capture sunlight, retain heat, and transfer it to the liquid. This helps increase heating efficiency.

Flat-plate collectors are the most commonly used collectors, but they are not as efficient as evacuated-tube collectors. These flat-plate collectors work best in full sunlight.

Evacuated-tube collectors are evacuated collectors made of rows of parallel glass tubes. These collectors are designed to absorb the maximum amount of sunlight and heat loss to the surrounding area, which is greatly reduced. Since heat loss cannot occur through a vacuum, a vacuum is used to reduce heat loss to the environment.

Creating a flat vacuum between two sheets of glass is much more difficult. Therefore, two concentric glass tubes are used to maintain the vacuum. Inside these tubes is a heat-absorbing coating that helps absorb solar heat. This manifold is much more efficient and longer than many other collectors.
